WHY WE ARE HOSTING A 5K
We want to help schools establish and maintain gardens!
In order for schools to establish and maintain thriving garden programs, it takes a sustaining force to effectively coordinate school staff, students, volunteers and community organizations. The Edible Classroom desires schools who want such a program to have the funds they need to keep the garden not just growing but thriving. That's why $10 of your $25 registration fee will go into The Edible Classroom's School Garden Grant Fund. Grants will be awarded to three schools to use toward The Edible Classroom's programming to establish and/or sustain their school garden programs in the 2018-2019 school year.
Gardening is good for kids!
We believe it’s important for kids to know that the food they eat does not magically appear on the grocery store shelves. Better yet, it’s good for them to be part of the process of growing their own food.
Research shows that participation in youth gardening programs can have the following impacts on students:
Increase science achievement scores
Improve social skills and behavior
Improve life skills, including working with groups and self-understanding
Improve environmental attitudes
Increase interest in eating fruits and vegetables and improve attitude toward fruits and vegetables
Packet pickup takes place at Manor Middle School during the following dates and times.
Friday, September 21, 6:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
Race Day, September 22, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m.
